Microsoft responds to ChevronWP7

Remember ChevronWP7, the software that allows you to bypass the Windows Marketplace install apps onto your Windows Phone 7 device, that was reported earlier? Well, Microsoft has released a notice to discourage users from doing so. “We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.” Though it doesn’t sound like Microsoft will be actively pursuing the people who came up with the hack, but it does seem like they might be patching this hole with future security updates. As we all know, unauthorized apps can easily cause damage to a phone and compromise its security, so it’s up to users to make backups and educated decisions if they choose to use them. How many of you have unlocked your WP7 phone?
