OnePlus One To Get Lollipop-Based ROM In India

Published

OnePlus looks set to introduce the OnePlus One smartphone in India this coming December 2nd, but it does look as though there is going to be a snag somewhere in there. Appparently, the OnePlus One will roll out with CyanogenMod right out of the box, but it will not be on the receiving end of any subsequent CyanogenMod updates. OnePlus will be the ones to offer such software updates in the future.

The reason behind this seemingly bizarre move? OnePlus claims to be working on a “stable, fast, and lightweight” ROM that will be based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and intends to introduce a “community build” for One users in India sometime in December with a production-ready build being in the pipeline for February 2015. Cyanogen has signed a deal with Micromax to provide India’s handset maker with exclusive rights to use CyanogenMod in that part of the world, so this will not affect OnePlus One owners outside of India.
