There are smartphones, and then there are tough smartphones. With a brand name like Caterpillar, which churns out industrial equipment as well as safety boots, it is no surprise then, to hear that their smartphones, too, are tough as nails. Case in point, the CAT S50 which was first announced over at IFA in Berlin, Germany, earlier this year. Back then, there was no word on it ever arriving Stateside, but here we are with news that the CAT S50 is going to make its way over to the US soon, although exact pricing and availability details remain to be known.

Here is a little bit of nitty gritty concerning the CAT S50 – it will be a smartphone that sports a 4.7” display at 720 x 1280 resolution, while featuring Mil Spec 810G compliance. Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the CAT S50 will be accompanied by 2GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, an 8MP shooter that does HD video recording, LTE connectivity, compliance to the IP67 standard, is scratch resistant, has wet-finger tracking ability, and will feature a thick plastic armor alongside a quartet of rubber bumpers.
