Build Your Own Cellphone With The DIY Cellphone

Most smartphones that we own these days tend to run into the hundreds of dollars if you were to purchase it unlocked – and the high end models tend to cost a whole lot more, like half a grand at the very least. Heck, let us not even go into those models that come studded with diamonds and gems. Well, here is a MIT project known as the DIY Cellphone which is a working handset that as its name suggests, you will be able to construct yourself.

It does all of the basic functions pretty well, including making and receiving phone calls as well as text messages, being able to stash names and the correct phone numbers with them, and needless to say, just like any other decent cellphone out there, it will also be able to display the tie. It will be built upon the hardware and software in the Arduino GSM Shield, although it has been extended with a full interface that will include display, buttons, speaker, and a microphone among others.
