Facebook Acquires Mobile Technologies

The food chain is not one that is shown off in the natural world alone, as many other things in life too, mimics such a cycle. Case in point, companies that have grown at an explosive rate in the past might now look down the food chain and wonder what existing technologies by different companies can be purchased outright instead of spending time and money to do their own research and development. Facebook has recently picked up Mobile Technologies, a company that specializes in speech recognition and translation, and we could very well see technology from Facebook’s latest acquisition power some of the social network’s future mobile projects.

Facebook’s Tom Stocky, director of Product Management, mentioned, “It has always been our mission to make the world more open and connected. Although more than a billion people around the world already use Facebook every month, we are always looking for ways to help connect the rest of the world as well. Voice technology has become an increasingly important way for people to navigate mobile devices and the web, and this technology will help us evolve our products to match that evolution. We believe this acquisition is an investment in our long-term product roadmap as we continue towards our company’s mission.”
