LG To Work On An 8-Core Odin Processor?

The KoreaTimes have revealed something that LG could possibly be working on, that is, an 8-core chipset as a mobile processor solution in order to strengthen their position in the smartphone industry further down the road, taking a similar move as that of Samsung and their Exynos chipset. LG will not be manufacturing the octa-core chipset that they have dubbed Odin, however, leaving this task to a Taiwanese TSMC manufacturer.

It is said that LG’s Odin chipset will be based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, where it will boast of an equal number (four each) of Cortex-A15 cores and Cortex-A7 cores, with the former using 28 nanometer level processing, while the latter will be lower-powered. The whole idea of developing this new chipset is to strike a balance between processing power and power consumption.
