ZTE and Mozilla To Come Up With Own Smartphone?

Word on the street has it that ZTE’s future smartphone will not be of the Windows Phone 8 variety, and neither will it dance to the tunes of Google’s Android operating system. No sir, instead, ZTE has looked towards Mozilla and hopes to collaborate with them on a Firefox powered smartphone, where it would debut in Brazil first before crossing the ocean all the way over to Europe. So far, it is said that both Mozilla and ZTE are in talks with an unidentified European carrier.

Cheng Lixin, Chief Executive Officer of ZTE USA, said, “If that is ready and if consumer studies support that data, then we may launch one in U.S. also this year.” I guess in a nutshell, the success of the phone’s release, or production even, would depend largely on the amount of interest generated. How well do you think a Firefox powered smartphone from ZTE will fare when released? It would certainly be an interesting addition, don’t you think so?
