Sony Xperia Tablet Z Announced In Japan

Sony’s Xperia Z certainly made quite a splash for itself at the recently concluded CES 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it is nice to see the same kind of concept being brought over to the tablet scene – and this time around, it is Sony Mobile’s Xperia Tablet Z that takes the plaudits among the tech community. Having being announced in Japan, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered device, and it sports a whopping 10.1” display at 1,920 × 1,200 resolution that would surely give the iPad with Retina Display a run for its money. Thing is, Sony has also managed to cram all of it down into a chassis that measures just 6.9mm thin, making it thinner even than the iPad mini, and yet it is also water- and dust-proof, now how about that?

Sony is certainly on the right track with the Xperia Tablet Z where tablets are concerned, and it will also come with an 8-megapixel backside-illuminated camera that Sony Mobile has incorporated into a tablet, which should come in handy to deliver great looking photos even when shot in low-light conditions. Other features include “S-Force Front Surround 3D” that is touted to offer better audio than usual, LTE and NFC connectivity. No word on worldwide availability and pricing details, but the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is slated for a spring release in Japan this year. [Press Release]
