Next iPhone from Apple will have a thinner screen

The next generation iPhone from Apple will arrive later this year, slated for a September or October release, and while some details on the device have been revealed, here we are with the latest bit of iPhone gossip from the Wall Street Journal, citing folks who are familiar with the matter that the next generation iPhone will have a thinner screen thanks to the implementation of a new technology.

This new thinner screen is being churned out by component makers in Asia – including Sharp Corp., Japan Display Inc. and South Korea’s LG Display Co. Ltd., clearly showing the world that Apple is not one who places all of their eggs in a single basket. The use of in-cell technology translates to a lost business opportunity for Wintek Corp. and TPK Holding Co. Ltd. of Taiwan, who were the suppliers of the touch-panel layer of the iPhone 4S screen.

This new in-cell technology will integrate touch sensors into the LCD, so there is no need for a separate touch-screen layer, hence enabling it to be slimmer than ever before.
