Foursquare revamped

Published

on

Foursquare has become quite the mobile app phenomenon, where you and your mates slug it out with one another’s presence at a certain cafe or coffee place, hoping to be Mayor. It is certainly an idea that will help enhance the profile of a properly run public area, as I am quite sure that good food and drinks always draw the right kind of crowd. Foursquare did talk about launching a new version earlier, so here we are with them keeping to their word, where the new app is now available for iOS and Android platforms, although BlackBerry owners will have to wait for some time more before they are able to get hold of a version just for them.

This new version of Foursquare deals more about finding things around you, depending on your current location. It will not load up the app when you arrive at a restaurant or bar to check you in, but rather, Foursquare has every intention of you using the app to search for new places to go to. Discovery is the keyword here, and I am not quite sure just how the dynamics of Foursquare users will change with the new version of the app – will it actually be a catalyst that helps drive others towards discovering new places? Or will people bypass that idea and stick to the tried and true method of just checking in?
