Windows Phone outsells iPhone in China

It is without a doubt that many of us do think that the iPhone is one of the best selling smartphones in the market ever since it arrived in 2007 (has it been that long already?), sporting new upgrades from time to time that see ever longer queues outside numerous Apple Stores worldwide days before the actual launch. Well, the world’s most populous country, China, has thrown a spanner into the works where Apple’s plans for world domination is concerned, with a claim appearing online that Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform which launched in China earlier this year has already started to outsell the iPhone in terms of sheer volume – taking just a couple of months to achieve this feat. Now, this is truly something, don’t you think so?

Obviously, some measure of fairness and objectivity need to be injected into this claim, as it might have more to do with the pricing structure itself compared to the platform’s desirability, as Apple products have literally been lusted after in exchange of body parts and perhaps to some, personal dignity. It is said that Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system makes up 7% of the Chinese mobile market, while Apple’s iOS is a wee bit back at 6%. Michel van der Bel, Microsoft’s COO for the Greater China Region was tickled enough to say, “We’ve only just begun.” They’re still a long way off Android who sits pretty at the top of the pile at 69% thereabouts though.
