Remember the Sony Xperia MY27i “Pepper” handset that we reported on yesterday? Well it looks like the device was a lot closer to an announcement than we had previously thought! The company has officially taken the wraps off the device which will now be known as the Xperia sola, an Android based smartphone with NFC technology that will also be compatible with the Xperia SmartTags that will allow for quick loading and easy sharing when used in conjunction with the device.

As far as its specs are concerned, the Xperia sola sports a 3.7” Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, a 1GHz dual-core processor, xLOUD and 3D surround sound audio technology and will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box. The good news is that Sony will be bumping the Xperia sola to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this summer, so if you’re looking for a mid-ranged Android smartphone, the Sony Xperia sola might be worth checking out.
