Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on O2 get Android 4.0 update ahead of unlocked owners in the UK

O2 subscribers in the UK will be pleased to learn that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for their device is now available. This was announced by the company on its official Twitter page and will be available for download via the Samsung Kies software. Oddly enough, it seems that unlocked Galaxy S2 owners in the UK have yet to receive the update, and according to Samsung:

“Samsung UK is working hard to bring Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to our Galaxy S II customers. We are unable to confirm exact dates as the software testing and approval process is subject to several variables, but we are working as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience.”

This is slightly bizarre as one of the “perks” of owning unlocked devices in the US and UK is that updates will generally be pushed to your devices as they do not require carrier approval. Of course there are alternatives, such as rooting your device and flashing an Android 4.0 ROM onto it, but for those unwilling to take the risk or do not possess the know-how, it looks like you guys are in for a wait. Check back with us later for updates.
