If you’re looking for a slightly smaller device than the Sony Xperia P, then perhaps the Sony Xperia U ought to do the trick. Announced alongside the Xperia P, the Xperia U will sport a slightly smaller 3.5” Reality Display that is powered by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA engine. However under the hood, the Xperia U will also sport a 1GHz dual-core processor, and will sport a 5MP rear-facing camera capable of HD video capture and 3D panoramic images.

It will come with xLoud and 3D surround sound technology, and will come interchangeable caps for the base of the phone. It will be launched in the second quarter of 2012, but no word on pricing just yet. The Sony Xperia U will also be launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, but an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected in the near future.
