School opts for Windows 7 tablets over iPad

When it comes to the education sector and tablets, so far we’ve seen some schools adopting iPads, and some schools adopting the Android platform, but we have to admit that we are a bit surprised to learn that some schools are now adopting Windows 7 over iOS or Android as the platform of choice. The reason behind this move? Well according to the Charlottesville City Schools, the reason behind their choice to go Windows over iOS is due to durability and security issues with the iPad.

The schools will be going with the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 tablets, with a 10” display and will be powered by Intel’s Oak Trail platform clocked at 1.5GHz. Supposedly the tablet is more rugged compared to the iPad and is said to be able to withstand drops and will last longer in backpacks, ultimately reducing the amount of repairs needed and will help maintenance costs down.

The enterprise tools that come with Windows 7 will also make it easier for IT managers to remotely manage the laptops, plus the stylus and the 8 hour battery life of the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 helped to clinch the deal, but it was admitted that Windows 7 is not as optimized compared to iOS or Android when it comes to the tablet experience, although Windows 8 should be changing that mindset.
