RIM offering free Playbooks to Android developers

Want a free Blackberry Playbook? No, we’re not offering it to you, but RIM is. According to a tweet by RIM’s Alec Saunders, the company will be offering Android developers a free Playbook tablet as long as you submit your Android app to the Blackberry App World by the 13th of February. It seems that this move is part of RIM’s strategy to attract more app developers over, which is not surprising given how the Playbook OS 2.0 is expected to feature compatibility for Android apps.

We’re assuming that since the Playbook and future Blackberry 10 smartphones share the same platform (QNX/BBX/Blackberry 10), these Android apps that are being developed now for the Playbook should feature compatibility with RIM’s upcoming Blackberry 10 smartphones as well. Either way follow the link in the tweet above for more information on what you need to do to get your hands on a free Blackberry Playbook!
