Ever wonder how Intel’s Medfield processor will perform compared to the others, such as Qualcomm, NVIDIA or Texas Instruments? Well if you’re living in France or the UK, you’re in luck as European carrier, Orange, has announced the Santa Clara Android smartphone that will be powered by Intel’s Medfield processor.

The device itself will be manufactured by Gigabyte, and will see an Intel Atom Z2460 processor under the hood that has been clocked at 1.6GHz. It will also sport a 4” 600×1024 display, an 8MP rear-facing camera and will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread preinstalled. Those looking forward to Android 4.0 will rest assured that the update has been planned and will be rolled out at a later date.

The phone itself will come loaded with a variety of services and apps for the European market. This includes Orange TV, Daily Motion, Deezer, Orange Wednesdays, Your Orange and Orange Gestures. The Orange Santa Clara will be launched this summer, but unfortunately pricing remains unknown although Orange has announced that it will be priced competitively. [Press release]
