Motorola Atrix 2 update rolling out, removes Carrier IQ software

If you own the Motorola Atrix 2, you will be pleased to hear that an update will be rolling out for your handset.Unfortunately if you were hoping that this update will be the much-desired Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, you might be in for disappointment. However this is the update that will be removing Carrier IQ’s software from your handset, which for those unfamiliar is a piece of software that has been installed stealthily on a number of mobile devices.

While not malicious in nature, its purpose was to monitor the behavior of the handset and basically logs what the user does with his/her phone. We guess some people were a little upset as it does border on invasion of privacy and there has been quite a lot of controversy surrounding the matter. We guess instead of attempting to convince everyone that Carrier IQ could be good for them, carriers and handset manufacturers have decided to just remove the software entirely. More information on what else the update will be bringing to the table can be found at Motorola’s website.
