Donkey Basic by Bill Gates appears on iPhone

Just as how it was deemed impossible in the past to see Windows running on the Mac, those barriers have been broken down – and you even have Microsoft Office running on Apple’s platforms without batting an eyelid these days. Well, I am glad that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs decided to work together instead of being at loggerheads for life, and here we are with a piece of code that Bill once wrote in his early years at Microsoft – a game known as DONKEY.BAS. This simple game was written in BASIC, where you will switch a car back and forth between lanes so that the donkey in the middle does not end up as digital roadkill. Debuting on early IBM computers nearly 30 years ago, it has made a return to the iPhone and iPad, courtesy of the dudes over at XVision, who recently released an updated version.

The iPhone and iPad DONKEY.BAS app will retail for $0.99 a pop, and I am quite sure that Bill does not need that kind of money any more. In fact, he should be proud of his efforts in the past, as XVision (the developer) founder Johnny Ixe came up with this as “a tribute to the original.”
