Toshiba unveils prototype waterproof tablet with wireless charging

We’re not sure exactly how many consumers out there would want a waterproof tablet, but it seems like Toshiba, perhaps in a display of tech prowess, decided to show case a prototype waterproof tablet at CES 2012 which they have dubbed the “Regza Tablet”, which was not only waterproof but could also be powered wirelessly. According to Toshiba, the wireless charging was achieved thanks to the magnetic resonance method.

While it appeared to have worked, Toshiba did state that the efficiency was not high although details of the efficiency were not disclosed. While the idea of a waterproof tablet might sound like a novel idea to some, safe to say that most of us would love the idea of being able to power our devices wirelessly without the need for long cables that tend to get tangled up when brought along during our travels.

Unfortunately if you were thinking of getting your hands on such a device, you might want to look elsewhere as Toshiba had stated that they have no plans to commercialize the tablet at this point in time. While not related to mobile phones and tablets, it should be noted that Haier also demonstrated a wireless television which could indicate that such technology is on its way to become commercially viable in the not-so-distant future.
