Skype for Windows Phone coming soon?

Published

When Microsoft decided to acquire Skype, integration of Skype’s features with Windows Phone devices wasn’t really a stretch of the imagination, and according to Skype’s VP, Microsoft is apparently working on a Windows Phone product that will be coming out soon, presumably with Skype integration. For those who might remember, Joe Belfiore of Microsoft originally promised Skype for Windows Phone would arrive in late 2011. As you can see, it’s already the third week of 2012 with no signs (apart from this piece of news) that Skype will be arriving on Windows Phone.

However it seems that should Skype arrive on Windows Phone, its original debut will not be featuring deep integration, but will instead be seen and treated as an interim release until the next Windows Phone update – Apollo – which is expected to be released some time later this year. No word on when this “Windows Phone product” will be seeing a release, but given that MWC will be taking place in Barcelona in February, we guess we can expect to see an announcement (and possible launch) some time then.
