US Cellular updating Samsung Galaxy Tab to Gingerbread 2.3.5

With the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note floating around in various markets, we’re guessing that the original Samsung Galaxy Tab has been receiving a lot less attention as of late, but for those who might have bought it on US Cellular’s network, the good news is that the carrier s finally rolling out the Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 update for the tablet.

Granted this isn’t Ice Cream Sandwich or even Honeycomb, but Gingerbread is definitely a vast improvement over Froyo 2.2 that the tablet originally shipped with. Unfortunately this is not an OTA update which means you will need to tether the tablet to your computer to perform the update. This means that data on your tablet will be wiped, so unless running on Froyo 2.2 does not bother you, you should probably start making backups of your data before proceeding with the update.

For more information on backing up your data and updating your tablet, Samsung has prepared a support page for Galaxy Tab owners. Be sure to head on down for the instructions before proceeding!
