T-Mobile G2x gets Gingerbread (again)

Despite being a “pure Google” device, the T-Mobile G2x seems to be facing so much trouble when it comes to updating to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The official update for the phone was issued quite a while ago and went through a series of starts and stops, and now it looks like the phone is ready to receive the update once more.

The update is for folks who don’t have Android 2.3 Gingerbread on your G2x phones yet. Besides upgrading the operating system to Gingerbread, the update is also touted to solve random reboots, overheating, poor battery life and other issues. Watch out for the notification on your G2x phones or head over to LG’s website to update it manually (there have been reports of bricking here – so take caution). As usual, remember to back up your device just in case anything goes wrong.

Let’s hope the phone won’t go through the same problems when it comes to Ice Cream Sandwich next year.
