Motorola Droid Bionic receives early alpha Android 4.0 port

The Motorola Droid Bionic was released several months ago with much fanfare, but has since remained pretty much in the background while the Droid RAZR and the yet-to-be-released DROID 4 hog all the spotlight. Not to fear though as Motorola has not forgotten about the device and had previously announced that the Droid Bionic would be seeing an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although we’re guessing that it will most likely be arriving some time in 2012.

If you think that waiting those few months is agonizing after watching your friends with the Galaxy Nexus enjoy an unadulterated version of Android 4.0 on their brand new devices, the good news is an early alpha port of Android 4.0 to the Droid Bionic has been released. The port is based on CM9 but it appears that 3G/4G data is still not working, and given how this is a smartphone, it’s a pretty big deal.

Like we said, it’s an early alpha release which ought to give you an idea of how “ready” it is for public consumption. Either way if you’re interested in giving it a spin or finding out more information and perhaps follow the progress of the port, hop on over the DroidForums for additional information.
