Ectaco Jetbook Color coming in January 2012 for $499.99

When e-book readers first hit the market, one had to make do with black and white displays, slow refresh rates, and basically, a rather sad looking piece of hardware – although it was the bee’s knees back then, but in hindsight, I am extremely glad that there has been plenty of good work done in this niche market to see e-book readers evolve by leaps and bounds since. Ectaco’s Jetbook Color is one of the newer models which will not rely on a glossy LCD display, where it will sport a rather impressive 9.7″ Triton Color E Ink display at 1,600 x 1,200 resolution, not to mention support Wi-Fi connectivity to boot so that you can download your favorite e-books from online stores. Just in case you have a sense of deja vu when you see this, it is because the Jetbook Color is a rehash of one of Hanvon’s models, hailing from China and released in Eastern Europe.

As for the Ectaco Jetbook Color, since this puppy will set sail for the US, it will be loaded with new firmware as well as educational applications, where among them comprise of a 50 state reading list and an interactive SAT course. Parents reading this might want to consider introducing a little bit of geekery for their kids who seem more interested in slashing grass for rupees. Place your pre-order for $499.99, where the shipping date has been scheduled for January 15th.
