DROID X receives Android 4.0 port

If you happen to own the DROID X, the good news is that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is finally headed your way! Unfortunately this is not in the official capacity but rather in the form of a custom ROM thanks to Android developer firstEncounter. It appears that the developer was a little sick and tired of not seeing enough Android 4.0 love for the DROID X and decided to take matters into his own hands.

The result is the EncounterICS and features an almost fully working list that one can expect in a ROM that they are planning to use as their daily driver. It is based off CyanogenMod 9 and the majority of the main functions such as WiFi, radio/data, SMS, hardware buttons, etc are all working. Some functions such as camera, MMS and voice input are still being worked on so fret not.

If you’d like to download this ROM and give it a go yourself, you can find more details and instructions along with the download link on RootzWiki, but once again we advice you to proceed at your own caution and only attempt the install if you know what you’re doing or if you’re feeling confident enough not to mess it up.
