Verizon trademarks “Hologram” name, 3D handset in the works?

In case you haven’t realized, Verizon does not offer 3D phones on its network. Sprint and AT&T currently have the HTC EVO 3D and LG Thrill respectively, and while the technology behind glasses-free 3D is a pretty cool one, it seems that these phones may not have caught on a huge way, at least not by their expectations, which has us wondering why would Verizon be trademarking the name “Hologram” which seems to suggest a 3D phone.

Will Verizon be getting a 3D phone of their own? That’s hard to say although we’re guessing by their trademark they don’t want others to use it, which could suggest Verizon’s interest in a 3D phone. Although when and what model that phone could be remains a mystery for now and this is pretty much just speculation for now.

What do you guys think? Will glasses-free 3D phones eventually take off in a huge way, or are they more of a novelty rather than a practical device that will become the standard of phones in the future?
