Siri used to start, lock and pop the trunk of a car

Siri was originally designed as Apple’s voice assistant feature on the iPhone 4S. It is quite a powerful tool and thanks to developers who have managed to crack the process on how Siri works, it seems like there have been some pretty cool innovations starting to pop up, such as the ability to control your home’s thermostat via Siri, and now we have another innovation where Siri can actually be used to start, lock and pop the trunk of your vehicle.

This is achieved through a proxy server where Siri’s commands are sent, along with the use of custom handlers that double as Siri’s commands. According to developer Brandon Fiquett who managed to get Siri to start, lock and pop the trunk of his car:

“The “Siri Proxy” plugin I wrote handles interaction with a php script that runs on my web server. The php script, which I developed months ago for personal use, allows me to send commands to my car which has a Viper SmartStart module installed.

Current commands accepted are: “Vehicle Arm”, “Vehicle Disarm”, “Vehicle Start”, “Vehicle Stop”, “Vehicle Pop Trunk”, and “Vehicle Panic”,”Fiquett posted on his blog.

Pretty innovative don’t you think? We have to wonder if these are features of Siri that Apple knew existed, or if they are only realizing just what a powerful tool they have in their hands. You can check out the video of Siri starting the car here, and a video of Siri locking a car here.
