NTT DoCoMo unveils real time translation app

Published

on

NTT DoCoMo has a pretty cool app up its sleeve. They have recently shown off their brand new translation tool which seems to allow for real time translation. All the user would have to do is speak into the phone in your chosen language, and a translation of it will be presented in both text and audible form.

At the moment it looks like the language translation is limited between Japanese and English, and there’s no indication if NTT DoCoMo has plans to add more language support. However for those looking for Japanese-English translation, NTT DoCoMo is boasting a success rate of 80-90%, which may or may not always land on the mark, but we think that it should be good enough for you to bring your point across.

The app is currently available to just 400 of their subscribers while they test it out, and if successful the carrier is hoping to roll it out to all of their subscribers in the second half of 2012. You can check out a video of it in action here.
