Nokia rolling out free WiFi hotspots in Central London

For travelers or residents in Central London, the good news is that Nokia together with Spectrum Interactive have launched 26 free WiFi hotspots from which you will be able to connect to via your smartphone, tablet or laptop, as long as you are within 50-100 meters of the hotspot which are located in phone boxes.

The WiFi connection is capable of going up to speeds of 20Mbps, but it has been limited to 1Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up per user to ensure that the network will not be overloaded. This will be a trial in which users’ behavior will be monitored along with demand for the service, and if successful, Nokia and Spectrum have plans for a large scale rollout in 2012.

If you are a Nokia Windows Phone owner, things have been made simpler for you as the hotspots can easily be discovered via the Nokia Maps application, where the hotspots will be marked on the map.
