Ice Cream Sandwich face unlock tricked with a photograph

One of the cool new features that Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich will be bringing to the table is the ability to unlock via face recognition. However some questions have popped up in the past asking whether a photograph of a face would be able to trick the system. A Google employee replied by saying no, but in a recent video that has been making its rounds on the internet, it looks like a simple photograph is good enough to trick ICS’s face unlocking feature.

A user who recently attended a Samsung event attempted to put this theory to the test, and by the results he appeared to be rather successful. However we should note that face unlocking should not be the ultimate means of security on your device, and that if you really wanted to protect sensitive information on your Android phone, there are better and much more secure means of doing so other than face detection unlocking. Let’s hope that Google finds a way to iron the kinks out before the release of ICS, which some are saying will be on the 17th of November.
