Apple patent suggests virtual SIM card

Published

Thanks to a recently published patent, it appears as though Apple has indeed thought about the possibility of a virtual SIM card. This idea has been proposed in the past, although many carriers did not seem to like the idea very much. As to whether this actually gets picked up and accepted by the carriers remains to be seen.

However what’s more interesting is its implications for the next-generation iPhone, presumably the iPhone 5. Many had expected the iPhone 4S to feature a redesigned look, but as it turns out the iPhone 5 will have that honor instead, or so the rumors are saying. By eliminating the need for an actual physical SIM card, the iPhone 5 will be able to be even much thinner than before, and at the same time be “astounding beautiful”.
