So what’s cheaper than Amazon’s $199 Kindle Fire? Well, India’s very own Aakash tablet of course! Priced at $35, the tablet have started shipping to Indian students around the country. However unlike the Kindle Fire, do not expect anything amazing out these tablets as they have been designed to spread the technology across India’s citizens, rather than wow them with its hardware specs.

For those curious as to what the Aakash tablet is packing under the hood, expect a 366MHz processor with 256MB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It will also feature a 7” 800×480 display and will come loaded up with Android’s Froyo 2.2. There is apparently a SIM card version of the tablet too, which we expect will allow for 3G connectivity. It has yet to be released but is expected to cost double the base WiFi tablet at $70.
