Samsung planning to make Bada open source?

Samsung’s Bada platform isn’t that big in the US, which has largely been dominated by iOS and Android. Bada however has been doing surprisingly well in Europe, and now it looks like Samsung may be taking Bada open-source and follow in Android’s footsteps.

With Google recently acquiring Motorola Mobility, it’s natural that many Android handset manufacturers are starting to get a bit worried that perhaps it is only a matter of time before Google closes Android to Motorola-only handsets. There have been rumors in the past that Samsung was thinking of acquiring HP’s webOS platform and Intel’s MeeGo, both of which have been denied by Samsung.

It did not make sense for Samsung to work on so many platforms at one time, and while an open sourced Bada is still a rumor at this point, it’s one that seems to make the most sense.
