Archos G9 tablets may see a downgrade in processor

If you were looking forward to the release of the Archos G9 tablet, here’s something you may want to consider. It appears that the company has run into a little hiccup with Texas Instruments, who apparently will be delaying the 1.5GHz OMAP 4 processors. So instead of pushing back the release of their Archos G9 tablets, the company has decided to equip their tablets with an overclocked 1.2GHz version of the OMAP processor found in their lower end tablets and rebrand these tablets as “Turbo” versions instead.

If that put you off, the good news is that when Texas Instruments finally gets the 1.5GHz OMAP 4 processors out the door next year, Archos will refit these “Turbo” tablets with the new processor. It’s a little confusing and undoubtedly a messy situation, but we will have to see how Archos’s strategy will play out.
