Voice recognition feature spotted in latest iOS 5 beta

If you have been following our blog, or other tech blogs, you should be familiar with some of the rumored features of iOS 5. While it was not revealed during WWDC 2011, many users were convinced that improved voice recognition (Siri and Nuance) will be implemented in iOS 5.

So far there have only been glimpses in the code of possible integration with Nuance but it appears that the latest version of the iOS 5 beta has revealed a microphone button in the on-screen keyboard, as pictured above.

Unfortunately it appears that the feature has not been activated although it seems that the framework is already in place. Some are saying that Apple is still in negotiations with Nuance to integrate the voice recognition technology which could be why the feature has not yet been activated, but either way it looks like Apple does have plans to include improved voice recognition in iOS 5. Let’s hope that it will be more practical than novel.
