New Android malware disguises itself as Google+ app

It looks like another malware has been discovered on Android, this time by Trend Micro. It seems the malware mimics the Google+ app on your phone in order to fool users into launching/downloading it.

The good news is that it only affects Android users who are still running on Froyo 2.2, but given that a good majority of Android users are still on Froyo (although those numbers are diminishing) this could pose quite a problem. It seems that the malware has the ability to steal a variety of information from your device i.e. text messages, GPS location, call logs and even can answer your phone and record your conversations, which we assume will be sent back to the malware’s creator.

As usual, steering clear of 3rd party app stores and downloading properly reviewed and rated apps is a good way for your Android device to stay safe (although not 100%) from malware infections.
