Kyocera getting Gingerbread update today

Published

on

Remember a while back we posted on how the Kyocera Echo was going to receive the Gingerbread update? We also mentioned that NFC and WiFi calling would also come with the update, but as it turns out those features were still experimental and were not meant to be included with the Gingerbread update (maybe in the future?).

The rest of the upgrades/improvements are still set to follow, which include:

  • An upgrade to the Swype 3.0 virtual keypad, with Tap Correction and Horizontal Word Choice List (predictive text)
  • An improved Downloads application, offering easy access to any file downloaded from the browser, email or another application
  • Pinch-to-zoom in Browser, Gallery, Maps, & Sprint Navigation

It even comes with Eco mode which allows users to better manage their device’s battery life. It lets the user set a threshold at which point the phone will then enter into low-power consumption mode, such as dimming screen brightness, screen timeout, auto-rotate, etc.

The update should be rolling out today, so if you’re a Kyocera Echo owner, time to start looking out for the notification.
