Apple Beijing selling refurbished iPhone 4 as brand new?

There seems to have been a ton of fake Apple stores popping up in China, many of which are being shut down as we speak by the Chinese authorities, but here’s something interesting – it seems that Apple is being sued by Wang Hai, a Chinese counterfeit goods crusader, for allegedly selling refurbished iPhone 4s.

The thing is, refurbished Apple products are legal when they’re advertised as refurbished, but it seems that Apple has been accused of selling the refurbished products as brand new, as some customers unfortunately discovered.

It seems when they attempted to register their iPhone 4s on Apple’s website, the repairs and service coverage showed an expiration date of 28th Jan 2012, and given that the customer only bought the iPhone on the 9th of July 2011, something was definitely wrong. It seems that Apple staff have tried to skirt around the issue by extending the product warranty, but given that you just dropped a ton of money for what you thought was a brand new iPhone 4, somehow having your warranty extended doesn’t seem to appease me. The good news is that the plaintiffs aren’t suing Apple for millions, but rather they want double their money back plus legal fees, and an apology. No word from Apple’s PR in China regarding this matter.
