Android now controls over 40% of the smartphone platform market

We posted a while back about a recent study that showed Android controlling about 34.7% of the smartphone platform market. While Apple currently remains the top in terms of smartphone manufacturer, it appears that Android still controls the vast majority of the platform market.

Based on the new figures by comScore, it shows that Android is still in the lead and is now up to 40.1%. Apple has increased its market share too and is now 26.6%. It appears that they both have increased in market share and judging by the rest of the figures, it was at the expense of RIM, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian.

With WP7 expected to be unleashing a wave of new devices, do you think it’s possible for them to start reclaiming the market or do you think it’s too late?
