Sprint announces deal with Lightsquared

Good news for Sprint users as it appears that they have formally announced their deal with Lightsquared who will be building a 4G LTE network using Sprint’s spectrum. Now this does not mean that Sprint will 100% go 4G LTE, but according to the deal, Sprint gets $4.9 billion in credit along with first option to get 50% of their 4G capacity.

Like we said earlier, this does not mean that Sprint users will be seeing 4G LTE services offered any time soon, but it does put Sprint in a great position to offer those services if and when they choose to. What with Verizon rolling out 4G LTE coverage as we speak and AT&T has theirs on the way, if Sprint does want to stay in the game in the face of the impending AT&T and T-Mobile acquisition, they may very well have to start offering up 4G LTE connectivity to their users soon.
