New Apple patent reveals plans for styluses

Apple has in the past, shown that they did not really care for styluses, but that did not stop manufacturers from putting out styluses that would be able to work on Apple iOS devices.

Now it looks like according to a patent that was recently filed by Apple, the company has plans of introducing styluses of their own, or at least putting the technology out there which can be licensed out to other companies.

There are two styluses involved in the patent, one of which is called a “stylus for touch-sensitive devices”. It comes with a rechargeable battery and it can actually be heated up to provide a more “consistent” application between the stylus and the device, assuming of course that the touch screen is a capacitive one.

The second stylus is perhaps a bit more interesting, as it will be able to interact with a touch screen without actually touching it. It makes use of position sensors and accelerometers, allowing it to transmit its position back to the device, which we’re guessing can be used as a remote of sorts.

It sounds pretty good, and we’re not sure if Apple has plans to change their stance on styluses for iOS devices, or if they are merely creating the patent which can be licensed out to other companies that make use of styluses, like HTC for example, who introduced the Scribe stylus for their HTC Flyer tablet.
