Kyocera Echo getting Gingerbread update August 1st

The Kyocera Echo is a pretty cool phone, we’ll give it that. It was a rather unique design at that time, although with the Sony S2 tablet on its way, we guess that the design did have its merits after all. However despite its unique design at that time, it did not do as well as it had hoped and many owners of the Echo were probably worried that they may be stuck with a device running on Android’s Froyo 2.2, and that’s Android fragmentation for you.

In a way, I guess we can gauge the commitment of a company to their devices but how quickly they put out updates, as opposed to just putting out a device and forgetting all about it. The good news for Echo owners is that the company will be putting out a Gingerbread 2.3 update and it will be coming your way August 1st. Judging by the screenshot above, the update will bring about certain security fixes, Swype and many more.
