iPad Reaches 100,000 Apps

When purchasing a tablet, you can have the most powerful tablet in the world but if the platform only has 100 apps, as opposed to over a hundred thousand, suddenly hardware doesn’t seem to matter so much any more. As an example, the PlayStation 2 is still going strong due to the number of games that it has available, granted that the graphics are extremely dated, but in terms of value for money, that’s where it really shines.

Similarly, the iPad 2 is currently the tablet to beat. Not because of its amazing hardware specifications; in fact there are other tablets in the market with bigger, bolder displays and better cameras, but yet people still flock to the iPad 2. We’re guessing that it has something to do with the recent reports that there are currently over 100,000 apps available for the iPad, compared to Android tablets, who may win in hardware superiority but only manage to number in the low hundreds for apps that have been designed specifically for the Honeycomb operating system itself.

Since tablets and smartphones these days are pretty much app-centric, would you agree that the number, and the type of apps available for your devices play a role in your decision to purchase it?
