HTC to start offering unlocked bootloaders in their devices come August

HTC has said a while back that they would be unlocking bootloaders for their devices, due to the increasing amount of their customers asking for it. It was a good move by HTC to please their fans and customers, and good news because it appears that from August onwards, bootloaders on all future HTC devices should be unlocked.

The unlocking process will be in two phases, with the first being the maintenance phase, where HTC devices will be primed for unlocking, and the second phase will actually bring the unlocking ability to devices. The procedure is slated for August, although it seems that devices will only be unlocked come September, which is when the unlocking tool is expected to be made available.

Of course, there are hurdles to overcome and it will be with the carriers, who may or may not approve the unlocking ability. If the update does not get approved, it looks like HTC’s good intentions may have gone down the drain, but for the sake of HTC users, let’s hope that the carriers will allow the updates to pass through.
