HP Play beta now available for download

Customers who have rushed out and bought the HP TouchPad when it was launched last week will be happy to know that HP’s version of iTunes – the HP Play – is now available for download.

It looks like HP Play is actually running off Songbird, which is a free and open source software audio player, which is fine, and sort of makes sense. Why should HP waste more time and resources developing an audio player from scratch when there is one already available out there, right?

At the moment it seems that HP Play is still rather basic, but it does what you would expect from an audio player – play songs, create playlists, song ratings and ID3 tag editing. You can even import iTunes libraries and synch your webOS devices to it as well, although that would require a USB connection.

If you’re looking to get your hands on the beta version of the HP Play, just head on down to HP Play’s website for the download.
