As most of us should be familiar by now, the rumors that the next-generation iPhone will be seeing a release sometime in September. There are also rumors that are indicating that Apple has plans to release a cheaper version of the iPhone, hoping to cast their net over a wider audience. Some have thought that the cheaper iPhone might be a 3G version of the iPod touch, while others are reporting that it will be the iPhone 3GS.

The 3GS apparently will be sold off contract for a price of $350, which is almost half the cost of an unlocked iPhone which is said to fetch a price between $600-$700. While it makes sense from a business perspective to try to reach out to a diverse audience, it’s just not in Apple’s style to offer up budget devices. The only thing that is for certain is that AT&T is now offering up $9 refurbished iPhone 3GS’ on contract, so head on down to AT&T’s website if you’re looking to get your hands on a budget iOS device.
