Will HP Do A Windows 8 Tablet?

Published

We all know that HP will be releasing their TouchPad tablet soon, and is even giving a $50 rebate to customers who were early adopters of the webOS platform when they first took over. The question is, will HP be sticking solely to webOS for all their future platforms or will they branch out and make devices for other platforms, namely Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 and Google’s Android.

Phil McKinney, the president and CTO of HP’s personal systems group, was quoted as saying, “We don’t do Android.” However when asked about Windows 8, Microsoft’s upcoming tablet-centric operating system, all Phil McKinney could say was that they were working closely with Microsoft. When pressed further, Phil McKinney instead brought up the Slate 500, which is another tablet by HP but running on Windows 7.

By that logic, it looks like HP is not opposed to running Microsoft’s platforms on their devices, so could that mean that we may be seeing a HP tablet running on Windows 8 in the future?

HP’s VP, Richard Kerris stated, “Because of our relationship with Microsoft, anything is possible. If we have a huge customer base that says we need a Windows 8 tablet, by all means, we’d listen.”
