Stephen Elop Thinks Android’s Success Is Thanks To Apple

According to Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop it’s because of Apple that Android has enjoyed such great success today. Despite Nokia and Windows Phone 7 being far away in the smartphone competition, it did not stop him from pointing out several faults with his competitors.

When Apple created the iPhone it showed device manufacturers what users really wanted from a smartphone but it was because of Apple’s closed system that users who weren’t thrilled about the close system started demanding for an open source environment, and that’s when Google stepped in with Android and everyone who needed or wanted an open source system jumped aboard. In fact nowadays when comparing iOS and Android the first thing that springs to mind would be how Android is so open unlike iOS, as illustrated in the image above.

His analogy does make a lot of sense, but what do the rest of you think? Despite how “closed” Apple is, the iPhone 4 still remains one of the best selling phones to date, how would you explain that?
