Nokia N9 Officially Launched

Last week we reported that Nokia was going to announce their “market disrupting” device on the 21st of June, which would be during the Nokia Connection event being held in Singapore, and as it turns out that their “market disrupting” device looked nothing in the picture we posted, but rather instead of a slideout keyboard, we got the N9 device which is fully touch screen and is the first (and probably last) MeeGo phone that Nokia will release. It’s a bit reminiscent of the earlier versions iPod Nano except in this case it’s fully touch screen and while personally I am not a fan of the colors, it does look rather sleek and elegant.

For those of you who are wondering what the N9 is packing under the hood, the device will be sporting a 3.9-inch AMOLED display with a body made from a polycarbonate material and internal storage capacities of 16GB and 64GB and available in black, cyan and magenta colors. The phone will also come with an 8MP auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and a super wide 28mm lens which will be great for scenery and landscape shots. It also supports HD video recording and true 16:9 resolution photos. The phone will also come NFC enabled along with Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi.

On the software front device’s UI was created to utilize various swipe gestures that you can perform on the phone with a browser built on Webkit 2 technology, the latest Nokia Maps, Drive, Dolby Digital Plus. No word yet on how much this device will cost but we can expect to see the device released sometime later this year.
